Climategate 3 it is not..!

Not satisfied with artificially engineering controversy using old data-mined and cherry-picked emails taken out-of-context in an attempt to discredit climate science and scientists, those who would have us believe climate change is not a problem are now trying to artificially engineer a controversy regarding supposed BBC fakery on Frozen Planet. However, I think it is time for another reality check… Err, hello-oh! Newsflash: The BBC production process is similar to ADR and Foley Artists in the production of Movies; what you hear in the Cinema is rarely the real thing. Therefore, given the logistical challenges that would have been involved in obtaining film footage from inside a Polar Bear’s den, is it really that surprising footage from a German Zoo was used instead? Also, why are Polar Bears being reared so successfully in captivity? Could part of the reason be that we are increasingly worried about their survival in the wild? To those of you inclined to dismiss such fears, just where do you find fault with the “habitat loss will lead to extinction” argument? As Frozen Planet beautifully demonstrated, Polar Bears spend much of their time on melting sea ice; and catch most of their annual food supply while on it. Indeed, they are not very good at finding food (certainly enough food) while on land or in the sea. Therefore, if as projected, the sea ice disappears within the next 5 to 10 years, what is there to stop Polar Bears from going extinct in the wild? They certainly are not going to become vegetarians or fish-eaters in that time. All around the world, wherever you look, those who deny that anthropogenic climate change is happening, is significant, is a problem, etc. are in retreat. One by one, their foolish arguments are being defeated; not by logic or strength of argument but by reality. In one sense this is a catastrophe because so much time has been wasted in argument. However, even so, irrespective of how bad things get, it will be better for the world to have woken up to reality than to have sleep-walked into an even greater cataclysm. Unfortunately, by the time that the general public finally realises what is happening and demands that our politicians dismantle (or at least ignore) the fossil fuel lobby’s disinformation machine, mitigating and/or adapting to climate change will have become much more expensive than it needed to be. It’s a shame but, as was ever the case, denying it will not make it untrue.

About Rick Altman

Possibly just another 'Climate Cassandra' crying 'Wolf' in cyberspace. However, the moral of the old children's story is that the Wolf eventually turned up!

Thanks for that trip down memory lane, John. It must be so nice to still be able to find comfort in repeatedly debunked arguments. The Antarctic is not warming as fast as the Arctic for two main reasons: (1) it is surrounded by ocean; and (2) the hole in the ozone layer is still in the process of being repaired. Despite this, the Antarctic Peninsula is warming as fast as the Arctic and the West Antarctic Ice Sheet is showing signs increased rates of melting (which will contribute to sea level rise). One page you clearly did not read on the NSIDC website was this one. I would also recommend addressing your pseudo-skepticism here:
